THUESDAY EVENING, 8EPT. O, 1880.
THUBUCGHBBEU CATTLE.
Hew te Secure a Geed Exhibit.
Mr. Celin Cameren's letter in reference
te the exhibition of thoroughbred cattle -at
the county fair, which was read at the re
cent meeting of the Berks county agricul
tural society, elicited quite a discussion,
and as the farmers are greatly interested
in this matter, the Times gives portion
of the letter, which will attract gen
eral attention. Mr. Cameren, who
was one of the cattle judges at the
last Berks county fair, is an ex
tensive breeder of fine cattle, and has
had charge for a number of years of the
" Elizabeth stock farms," en the Cole Cele
man estate, near Brickersville, Lancaster
county. lie says: "Yeu will concede that
the most people will go where there is the
greatest attraction, and you will again
knew that the most attractive thing for
the mass is what pleases the eye best, and
educated and uneducated alike in all things
prefer symmetry and certain combinations
that furnish a certain amount of satis
faction in the beholding. There, my first
point was that all the cattle of each separ
ate brcca should be grouped together ;
first, as being mere attractive ; second, as
being mere satisfactory te exhibitors ;
third, te vibiters ; fourth, as being the best
for the judges.
" The next that I wrote you concerning
was, if cattle from outside the county
would be allowed te compete for premiums,
and it was and is new my opinion, that te
make a successful show, te stimulate home
farmers te improve their stock, te raise the
standard or each successive exhibition,
there should be some encouragement for
outsiders te bring their herds te the show,
llarrisbunr, Dauphin county, offers $35
for herd prize, and allows individual ani
mals te compete. 1 erk county eilers el),
and only gives herd pi ize, restricting com
petition in individuals te the county. This
latter is a very geed plan. Fifty del
lars would nay a part el a man s
expenses, and it docs make a fair
much mere attractive. I knew that
many men with their families go
te a fair te sec a noted herd, who would
net go cither te see the herd alene nor the
fair alone, but seeing both, they go, and if
the officers of a fair will make note through
the pic.ss of their prominent features it
adds acceiuingly te their receipts at the
gate. This will be found true en every
occasion. Lancaster county, rich in itself,
proud of agricultural wealth, and of the
prosperity el the tillers or her soil, ler
some reason is net, and has net, been able
te organize and successfully carry en a
fair. ou have been successful m the con
tinuance of yours te this date, but there is
no reason why you should net surpass any
and all your former efforts and rise te a
plane heretofore thought beyond your
reach.-'

Brandy as a Medicine.
The lollewlng article was voluntarily sent te

the Brandy referred te in his regular practice.
It is commended te the attention of these af

BRANDY AS A MEDICINE. .
Tills new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant
was never intended as a beverage, but te be
used as a medicine of great potency in the cure
of some of the destructive diseases which
sweep away their annual thousands of victims.
With a purely philanthropic motive we pie
sent te the favorable notice et invalid' spe

nothing mere or less than
Brandy.
The aged, with lccbie appetite and mere or

KEIGART'S OLD BRANDY,
Sold by our enterprising young friend, II E

as our experience extends, and we therefore
give it the preference ever all ether Brandies,

A hard-working tanner had been mil ic ted

and as a beverage lie used McGrann's Beet
