that the patient Is entirely beyond the reach of
medical relief.
It may be asked by those who are not familiar
with the virtues of these great . remedies, "How
do Dr. fichencies medicines effect their wonderful
cures of consumption?".
The answer is a simple one. They begin their
work of restoration by bringing the stomach, liv
er and bowels Into an agave healthy condition. It
Is food that cures this formidable disease.—
SCHENCK'S MANDRAKE PILLS act on the liver
and stomach, promoting healthy secretion, and
removing the bile and Mime which have smutted
from the inactive or torpid condition of these
organs, and of the systetn "generally. This • slug
gish state of the body, and the consequent accu
mulation of the unhealthy substances named
prevent the proper digestion of food, and, as a
natural consequence creates disease, which re

SCHM4 'CH'S PULNEINIC SYRUP and SEA.
WEED TONIC, when =taken regularly, mingle
with the food, aid the digestive ormuts, make good
rich blood, and as a natural consequence, give
flesh and strength to the patient. Int the faculty

s= Experience has proved it beyond the
shadow of a doubt, and thousands are to(lay alive
and well who a few years since were regarded as
hopeless cases, but who were Induced to try Dr.
Schenck's remedies, and were restored to perma
nent health by their use.
One of the Aril steps the physician should take
with a consumptive patient is to invigorate the
system. Now how is this to be done? Certainly
not b giving medicines that exhaust and enervate
medicines that impair instead of improve the
functions of the digestive organs. Dr. ..enck's
medicines cleanse the stomach and bowels of ail
substances which are calculated to_
_irritate or

consequence, they Invigora te strengtben the

to bring a patient to this condition so long as the
liver Is burdeded with diseased bile, and the
stomach laden with unhealthy slime.
Almost the finn wi pmst made , to the physician
by a oonsumptive Is that he will prescribe
medicines that remove or allay the ewe',
night sweats and chills, which are the sure at
tendants on consumption. But this should not be
done, as the cough is only an effort of nature to
relieve Itself, and the night sweats and chills are
caused by the diseased lunge. The remedies or

There is, afrer all, nothing like facts with which
to substantiate a position, and It is upon facts that
Dr. Schenk relies. Nearly all who have taken
his medicines In accordance with his directions
have not only been cured of consumption, but,
from the fact that these medicines act with won

N THE YOUNG AND I ISING GEN 'RATION
The vegetative powers of life are strong, but In a
few years bow often the pallid hue, the lack-lustre
eye and emaciated form, and the kopossibllitY of
application to mental effort, show its baneful in
fluence. It soon becomes evident to the observer
that some depressing influence Is checking the
development.of the body. Consumption is talked
of, and perhaps the youth is removed from school
and sent into the country. This is one of the
wont movements. Removed from ordinary di
versions of the ever-changing scene of the city,
the powers of the body, too much enfeebled to
give zest to healthful and rural exercise, thoughts
are turned inwards upoli themselves.
If the ;salient be a female, the approach of the
messes Is looked for with anxiety, as the first
symptom in which Nature is to show her saving
power In aniline the circulation and visiting the
cheek with the bloom of health. Alas; increase
of appetite has grown by what it fed on ; the en.
ergim of the system are prostrated, and the whole
economy is deranged. The beautiful and wond
erful period in which body and mind undergo so
fascinating a change from child to woman, is
looked for in vain: the parent's heart bleeds in
anxiety, and fancies the grave but waiting for its
victim.
