EX lIIBITION.—The colored folks had
an exhibition in their church on Tuesday
evening last., the 22d, Which was repeated
on Wednesday evening. The exercises
coueisted of speeches, dialogues, and sing
ing, old and young participating, making up
a varied programme, which seemed to be
hugely enjoyed by the audience. The

, SLEIGH RIDE.—On last Friday morn
ing the friends of the little orphans attend•
Mg school at St. Joseph's Seminary, at Mc
., —Sheirystown, treated them to a capital
sleigh ride. Numerous sleighs were brought
into requisition, and the little ones were
snugly tucked in, and the party started
gaily off in the direction of Oxford. A ride
of some ten or twelve miles was given
them, and the little folks enjoyed it hugely.

COLD SNAP.—The rain storm of last
Friday and Saturday, wis_succeeded by a
cold snap, the Severest we have had this
winter. On Sunday and Monday the trier:
cury wen t down to 7° above zero. Ice of
sufficient thickness was' formed on Rock
Creek to enable owners of ice houses to
put in a full supply. The storm seems to
have been very extensive, telegraphic des
patches from all quarters representing an
intense degree of cold. In the far west the
mercury sank far below zero, while cable
despatches speak of an unusual told spell
in England and northern Europe.

ROBERY AND A.BREST.—On the night
of the 16th inst., the watchmaker shop of
D. G ru ni bine, in East Berlin, was entered
and an eye-glass and plir of pinches stol
en. The saute night cue tailor shop of J.
Q. Schwartz wasan tared and a coat, pair
of pants, two hats, six silk head-nets, a
lady's dress, a lot of ribbons, &0., were
stolen. Suspicion attached to a stranger,
calling himself Henry Yanch, who had
been abaut t4otown and who disappeared
during the night. Yanch was found in
Hanover on .Monday last; with the miss
tug pants and coat on his person. He
was arrested and brought to Gettysburg
on Tuesday, Justice Cover committing
hint to jail.

INCOME RELIJRNS.—The Assistant
Assessors are now issuing blank forms for
Income Returns for the year ending Dee,
31, 1869. We annex the Instructions is,
sued to Assessors: -
In regard to the annual assessment, you
are instructed to use the blanks of last
year, changing the dates. It is desirable
lo commence assessments kamediately in
- all cases where parties feel will to make
returns. Where they are unwilling no
penalty can be enforced until after the Ist
of March. You should leave a blank with
every person who,. In any probability, ha&
an Income tax, and to make a list of the
persons with whom blanki are left. These
forms should ail be returned filled up in

DEBATE. —The members of the Flat
bush and Belmont Debating Societies met
at the Springs Soul on Tuesday evening,
to discuss the question whether America
has produced a citizen comparable with
Washington.'_ Quite a 'number of members,
of both Flocieties participated in the discus
sion, winch is said to hays been Interesting
and creditable to the societies.
DEAD.—The Balthnore Sun announces
the death, in that city; alter a brief illness,
of Joseph Handler (better known as Colonel
Smali,) well known throughout the United
States in connection with the three dwarfs
who for years have been under management
