DRYING Pl7lll PRINS .—Pumpiine
may be put up in the old fashioned, mode
of cutting into rings, parting and drying
upon poles; or they may be cut into
small pieces, and dried on plates in the
sun or oven. A better plan, howeer, la to
pare, stew and strain them, just as if for
plea; then spread the pulp thinly upon
earthern dishes, and dry quickly in a hot
sun, a partially heated oven, If dried
slowly, there is danger of souring. StOre
in a dry room. Kept in this manner,
they retain much of the freshness and
flavor of newly gathered fruit. The dried
pulp shofild be waked in milk a few hours
before using. In making pies, they are
greittly improved by stirring the pump
kin in scalding milk, especially if eggs be
not used ; but without eggs they fall far
short of the true "pumpkin pie."
IMPROVEMENTS.—Notwithstanding
the lateness of the season, various im
provements ()outlaw, in the Borough, fin"

ground for others to go up early next
spring. There has been quite a large
amount of paving of side-walks, under
direction of the Town Council, and we
understand that a amulet. of other prop
erty holders ere under "notice" to fix tip.
On Carlisle street extended, the spirit of
improvement is particularly manifested.

HOW DO THEY DO I T?—Many sinus
ing things, and some very unjust things,
are said in trying to explain the very low
prices prevailing at Oak Hall. Some say
"they lose money brit," but how a house
can kelp losing money right along, and
not fail, or what can be the object or losing
money, they do not explain. Others say
"they do not half pay their hands,"
whereas it is notorious that no employees
in that line of business, are so well paid
and so well satlatied, as are those of Wan
amaker & Brown, and it must be clear to
all, that while the demand for good work
is so great as it now is, it would be impos
sible for W. Of B. to command the services
of a thousand of the best tailors at inferior
prices. And one man was heard to assert
very confidently, the other day, that
they must steal them." But whatever
maybe the explanation, the one thing
to be learned by all is, that by universal
consent, Wanamaker tt Brown do sell
cheaper than any other house seems to be
able to. it

lens of New York is to create the impres
sion that President Grant was a party to
their conspiracy. The President's honesty
is too well established to be impeached by,
a set of' inisimible rogues who would de
stroy the cormtry tomorrow if thereby
they could enrich themselves. Fort unately,
nobody believes what they say, and honest
men all over the land will be only too glad
to hear of the complete smash-up of this
detestable "rills."

PAIN KILLER
PAIN is supposed to be the lot of els poor mortals u
inevitable as death, and liable at any time to come up
on na. Therekare it is important that remedial agent,
should be at hand, to ho need on emergency, when we
are made to feel the excruciating agony of pain, or
the depressing influences of disease.
Such a remedial agent Ulna in PERRY DAVIS'
"PAIN KILLER," the fame of which has extended
over all the earth. Amid the eternal ices of the
polar regions, or beneath the intolerable and binning
sons of the tropics, Its virtues are known and appre
ciated. And by it suffering humanity has found relief
from many of its lily. The affect of the Pain Killer
upon the patient, when taken internally, in cases of
Cough, Cold, Bowel Complaints, Cholera, Dysentery,
and other affections of the system. has been truly
wonderful, and has won for It a name among medical
p reparations' that can never be forgotten. Its success
in removing pain, as an external remedy, in cases of
Burns, Bruises, Sorer, and Sprains, Outs, Stings of
Insects, Ac.. and other canna°, suffering, has secured
fur It the most prominent position among the medl
clue of the day. Illirileware of Counterfeits and
worthless imitations. Call fur Perry Davis' Vegeta
