A. GOOD SUGGESTION.--In another
column will .he found a communication
from ode of oar oldest and moat promi
nent ciUsemseangiresting a duutip in the
nomenelattu% Of our streets, by `adopting
the names of proMlnent soldiers who
distinguished themselves in the battle of
Gettysburg. The suggestion is a good one,
and we shottld dice to see it-promptly
adopted by the town authorities. The
reason for naming streets atter the leading
cities and townivirotmd us has long sines
ceased in the construction of Railroad , the
opening of new roads, the growth of new
towns, &c., and the proposed change
would not only give us more euphoneous
names, brit be graoeful tribute to the
dead andilvtngheroeebf the Republic.. •

A resolution was adopted recommending
the foreclosure of the Mortgage, and a
Committee appointed to arrange with

the Interests of the latter may be protect

• one for the Bondholders to unite in the
purchase of the road, or at least to bid it

secure a dedree of eale under which it may

Pdassats. Eorrose :---At this time, when
ImPro, seems to be the order: o 1 the:
day, would raiggest to the inthiwitles and
oitizers of our town the propriety of
changing the "tunes of some of our streets.
Weald*, net bit-very desirable to dispense
with such hard, unpronounceable names as
Cbamberaburg street, Briteklnrldge street,
Carlisle street, Stratton street, &c., and sub
stitute the names of 'Reynolds, Howard.
Meade, Buford, Sedgwick, 'Vincent, Haz
lett, and others—names that are entitled
to all honor and respect by our Country
men ? Would not ~ tgettysburg be honored
in having its streets named after some of
the heroes who participated in the terrible
conflict of Ju 1 ,t , 11368, many of whom have
given their lives in defence of the Constitu
tion Ind laws of the Country?
To effect the proposed change, U would
only be necessary for opt Town Council so
to ordtin and then place small Index boards
at the street cornersmitit the name of the
street. Will our Borough antluTities and
the citizens generally please to give this
subject the favorable consideration which
It seems to deserve ? A CITIZEN.
KEEP WARM AND SAVE YOUR
LIFE.—At this season- many deaths take
place which might be prevented by
warmer clothing. Many a fatal case of
dpentery is caused by the want of
Woolen undershirt, or of 'an extra blanket
at night. The sudden changes of tempera
ture whiCh occur at this period of the year
aro very trying to the constitution. Peo
ple with weak lungs qu.ekly beet the effect
of them. Frequently the thermometer
falls many degrees within a few hours.
Not only the feeble, but robust and strong
persons suffer from such great vat lotions
of temperature. When the weather grows
cold rapidly, the pores of the skin are sud
denly closed, and the maul t frequently is
a bad cold, which may hold on all whiter
and ternainateln consumption. or a fatal
attack of dysentery, or that dreadful dis
ease the typhoid fever.
If the day seems ever so warm and
bright, it Is much safer to wear plenty of
underclothing at this season. In the eve
nings the-dews fall, and it grows chilly
'eery suddenly. At all times, even when
it feels the warmest, one experiences the
difference which Is so marked. between
the autumn atmosphere and that of the
summer. There is something more than
the mere differencein temperature ; it may
be in the electricity. An occasional fire in
a room dries the walls and purifies the
atmosphere. A little timely - attention to
all those things would prevent a great deal
of the disease and. suffering which are
among the Ills to which humanity is liable,
