Penn State Hazleton A few weeks before the end of the semester, each Penn State student must enroll and choose classes for the upcoming semester. To benefit the students, Penn State Hazleton’s Student Government Association (SGA) played a more than significant role in making course selectors available to the students for the fall 1991 semester. The course selectors describe the classes and their requirements. They also inform the students as to who is teaching each class. “The students can make their schedule according to how much each class requires of them. They have an idea of how much work will be expected of them, including the number of tests and papers that will be due. Last year, the selectors were distri buted in the spring for the fall 1990 semester, but because of lack of funding they were not available for the spring 1991 semester. Funding for the course selectors had come rom the administration. “Student Government I cannot find a definition for what I feel for you but yet it’s too late to stop too strong to deny too complex to understand that what I feel is right When asked if other campuses have selectors as well, Suwalski answered, “From what we under stand, U-park is trying to start it York Campus and a few others have I won’t be hesitant I them -” I’ll know it myself to you If I see the chance to be yours forever I’ll take It decided that it was a project that had to be done for the students, and we are picking up the cost,” said Suwalski. To make the course descriptors possible, Mrs. Judy O’Donnell and the Academic Advising Center computes the information needed for the book let A copy is then sent to SGA which in turn takes it to International Printing to be copied. The most difficult part of the pro ject is compiling the information. Print ing copies for the students only takes a few days. “They came a few days after registration started, but we got them out as soon as possible,” Suwalski said. Suwalski continued, “We decided that SGA should take care of every thing. It makes things alot easier... Student Government is here for the purpose of helping the students." “It’s going to be a bi-annual thing for the students. The sophomores are glad to see that the selectors are back because they know how helpful they were in the past The freshmen appre ciate them a little more because they didn’t have them last semester to schedule their classes for spring. Now that they are available the students see that scheduling is a little easier,” finished Suwalski. One student picking up a selector said, “Hopefully this will become a tradition here... they really give great descriptions that help alot” Page 4
