COMMONS EXPANSION by Bethany.• Longenecker Everyone who has eyes realizes that the Commons building is a bit too small for the amount of students(about 1100) that use it. Origionally built for 500, now twice that, the Commons is definately in need of expansion. Highacre's SGA (Student Government Association) acknowledged this inconvenience, and have proposed a solution. An expansion for the Commons building is now in the planning stages. It will be in two areas WiaaLt' s tl - 1. Wall<m - Awrci. SUPERSTUDENT!! Believe it or not we, the students have input on who gets this award. Nomination packets can be picked up at the Office of Students Programs and Services. Once all the packets are in there will be a committee consisting of students, faculty, and staff that will pick the student is most deserving. I bet most of you don't even know what the Walker Award is or that it even exists. Well it does. The Walker Award is given once a year during the spring semester. It's purpose is to TtiEt recognize students 1:1 L A N. from Commonwealth Campuses whose out- EG t upstairs, the kitchen, and the seating area are to be expanded to seat 125 more people. Down stairs, an overlook to the Conyngham Valley, and a faculty dining room could be added. A special Commons Expansion Council has been estab lished to represent the students views on the project. Dr. Staudenmeier the campus CEO (Campus Executive Officer) and Dean McCall us are the advisors. The expansion should begin to take shape in about five years, so none of us will be here for this exciting spec tacle, but we have the satisfaction of knowing that we were the ones to start it. standing qualities of character, scholar ship, leadership, and citizenship have been directed into programs and services that have positively influenced fellow students and have contributed to the prestige and well being of the campus. You know it's that indic individual on your campus that seems to be everywhere helping everyone, and still keeps a great grade point average. I guess it's like ROTC UPDATE ROTC has been successfully organizing many trips for the end of the semester. Our first repelling trip for this semester was March 19, it was a great succ ess due to a job well done by C/SSG Michele Graham. A BIOVOAC is being brganixed by C/ILT Tera Wain, where cadets will be spending two nights in the woods, eating MRE'S (meals ready to eat), going on road marches and constructing rope bridges. Sat. April 9, ROTC will be having a car wash at the Laurel Mall in the Boscovs parking lot. Be sure to come and help support the ROTC program! Fina lly, ROTC will end the semester with their awards Banquet where cadets will be recogn 'zed for their support and efforts to the ROTC .rogram.
