Highacres Collegian, January 31, 1977- Page Five DAVID TAKES ACTION ON SG.A. REQUESTS Dr. William David, Director of the Highacres Campus, took action on January 4 to have win dows installed in the double doors in the Highacres Commons. The doors are located in the ern portion of the upper floor of the Commons. David took action as a re sult of the Highacres Student Government Association and Mr. Everitt Binns, Assistant to the Dean of Student Affairs, request ing that windows be installed in the doors, according to Ron Drum, President of the S.G.A. the S.G.A. made this request as a result of a student,James Roslevich having two teeth knocked out. The teeth were knocked out as a result of a lack of visibility by a person standing on the opposite side of the doors, swinging the doors open into Roslevich's face. The windows were installed on January JB. The S.G.A. also asked David to take action on another long continued from page Z service to lower costs to the customer. Unfortunately, and I my- self have witnessed this, people, both faculty and students alike would buy coffee, doughnuts, etc. and then buy a second cup of cof fee,and then leave. Behind these people were left tables with cups, paper plates, crumbs, and "what not" And as more people used the tables, the piles grew higher, cups were used as ashtrays, and finally the cups started to fall and break. Not only did cups break, but some were actually stolen! So Mr. Krone and the ladies worked twice as hard to clean the tables, cups, and floors and still get the financial and bookeeping work done in time be fore the Union said,"quitting time!" It got to Mr. Krone had to hire an extra person to help clean-up the Commons. He had to replace broken and stolen cups. The metal stairs located between the upper sophomore parking lot and the faculty parking lot have been proven to be very dan gerous , especially duing the win ter with accumulations of snow and ice. Paul Cerula, Business Mana ger, had told the COLLEGIAN on March 17, 1976 that bids were being taken to rebuild the stairs using concrete to make the salting easier during the winter months. However, the stairs were never rebuilt. Also, according to Drum, this was not the first time that the S.G.A. had brought the issue to the administrtion. He said that in past years the S.G.A. had requested that safer stairs be installed. David promized the S.G.A. that "as soon as the weather breaks" the stairs will be rebuilt. continued on page 10 Mr. Krone decided to make a plea to the customers. Signs went up asking the customers to return the cups and to clear off the tables, Dut no one listened. Finally, as a last resort, be fore closing up the snack bar completely-, Mr. Krone bought styrofoam cups and up went the price of coffee. Up also went the cries of "robbery" and"ridiculuos, having to use styrofoam cups." Funny, how people can be so stupid as to think they can be sloppy and not have to pay for it. Can people be so in considerate to each other as not to clean up after them selves so the next person will not have to before he or shß can eat? Are the students not embarrassed when visitors enter the Commons Lounge ana discover the place looks like a pigsty? Everyone, hang your heads in shame and have a heart. Clean up your tables so maybe we can get back to drinking coffee out of a porcelain cup and not a styrofoam cup.
