HIGHACRES COLLEGIAN, APRIL 21, 1972 -- PAGE FOUR Four Hazleton took On February 18, Coach Ronald Biggers took four Hazleton Campus wrestlers to the Commonwealth Campus Wrestling Tournament at Dußois. Ten other campuses qualified to enter and most of them entered a full team of ten wrestlers. From the Hazleton Campus, Jesse Fulkersin, wrestling at 118 Ibs, was the most experienced grappler and had a good chance to place near the top of his weight class. Jesse won his first match over Moser of Shenango Valley, 18-6. This advanced Jesse into the semi-finals against first seeded J. DiMaro of Behrend, but Jesse lost 16-2. After this setback by DiMaro, who later won the championship, Jesse took on Dewar of Beaver and handily decisioned him 10-1. This qualified Jesse to wrestle J. Giunta of New Kensington for 3rd place. Jesse lost to Giunta, thus finishing 4th in the 118 lb. class. He was Hazleton's only grappler to place that high. Hazleton's next entry was Kerry Willard in the 142 lb. class. In a preliminary match, Kerry wrestled his best match of the year and decisioned R. Fellows of Altoona, 7-6. In the quarter finals, Kerry met Ed Burkett of Dußois and was pinned by him. Burkett went on to become champion of the 142 lb. class. On Saturday afternoon, Kerry wrestled L. Fabrizi of Behrend to try to make the concellation bout for 3rd place, but Kerry was pinned by Fabrizi and eliminated from the tournament. Hazleton's entry at 167 lb. was Mark Gniewyk whose first exposure to wrestling was in November, 1971, when Coach Biggers began practice for the '7l-72 season. Friday evening, Mark wrestled one of his finest matches of the season but lost a 6-1 decision to Montgomery of Altoona. Montgomery went on to take second place in the tournament. On Saturday, Mark wrestled Bryan Schwartz of Schuylkill and lost by a 10-0 decision. Greg Solt, in the heavyweight class, was Hazleton's fourth entry. Gng was unfortunate in that he was pinned by Dal Alberts of New Kensington, who went on to place second. On Saturday, Greg was pinned again by Dave Linnemans of York. part in meet Coach Biggers felt that although the men entered did not win many of their matches, they did well in spite of the fact that most of them do not have extensive wrestling experience. Looking to the future, the wrestling program on the intercollegiate level may be at the cross roads because of a limited number of men willing to come out and stay out for the entire season. This year Coach Biggers' squad was composed of 7 men who put forth a fine effort to learn and perfect their skills in wrestling. In each meet, the team had to forfeit 3 to 4 weight classes, worth 6-8 team points, which hampered chances of winning a dual meet. If interest is shown, a good wrestling schedule is possible because of the number of colleges with wrestling programs in this area. There are several open tournaments that our wrestlers could enter and from which valuable experience could be gained. Coach Biggers would like to thank all the men who . 1111 1 1111 11 1 1111111M11111111111111111111111111111111111' ESS-BEE SPORTSWEAR Broad and Wyoming JEANS $ 3.00 JAMAICA SHORTS 8- 18 $2.50 & $3.50 SHORT SHORTS 8-16 $2.50 & $3 PANTY HOSE $.50 NAUTICAL WEAR Mix and Match Slacks $4,00 & $5.00 Knit Tops $3.50 & $4.00 NEW ARRIVALS Sizzler Pants 5 - 13 $2.50 ALL WEATHER COATS MENS KNIT SHIRTS $ 10.00 ALWAYS A SALE AT ESS BEE !.! nlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll 111111111111 l iiieumuimmummummumuusiguZ wrestlers stayed with the team this season. Members of the club have completed a 12-hour instruction course in the fundamentals of parachuting conducted by a certified U.S. Parachute Association instructor. The members made their first jump on Nov. 13, 1971. Club members now have a total of 30 jumps to their credit. They jump every weekend under the supervision of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Ripcords at the Hazleton airport, weather permitting. The Skyhawks would like to begin a new instruction class. To do so they need ten interested persons. Why not get in on the action of the thrilling sport of skydiving? Just contact any club member. That is not a part of the message which I am trying to convey with my music. There is no reason whatsoever for using drugs or drinking large amounts of alcohol. When I give a concert, I try to be pure in every respect, only then can I give the audience everything which is within me. My music should also be accepted in this spirit. If it is, it can become a kind of psychedelic, consciousness - expanding experience - and that without the use of drugs." - Ravi Shankar "I call upon every youth to stop the use of all Drugs and banish them into the dark and dismal places.
