FACULTY SPOTLIGHT!
MR. R. ALAN PRICE
A recent addition to the Colleg
ian has been an interview with a
member of the faculty in order to
better acquaint the students with
their backgrounds. Mr. R. Alan
Price, Instructor of English, is the
subject for this spotlight feature.
Mr. Price pursiued his under
graduate studies at Lafayette Col
lege, Earlham College, University
of London, and the University of
Edinborough. He received his Mas
ter’s Degree from Penn State Uni
versity and did further study at Ox
ford University. Within the next
few years he plans to return to
study for his Ph. D.
Hobbies that interest Mr. Price
are golf, tennis, oil painting, and
travel. In the future he would like
to teach tennis or golf and perhaps
organize intramural competition in
the two sports.
Activities in which he partici
pates on campus are: Student Af
fairs Committee, Chairman of the
Library Committee, Faculty Nom
inating Committee, and advisor to
the Non-Club Club.
He is also particularly active in
the dramatic area. Spring Term of
1967 he directed “The Lottery.”
This past Fall Term he was instru
mental in organizing the first annual
“Faculty-Student Comariety Show”
which he also directed and co-pro
duced with Mr. Len Shaeval.

SAL DEFAZIO
TO PERFORM
IN CONCERT
Sal DeFazio, freshman, a talent
ed and creative pianist has been
requested to perform, in concert,
on May 23, 1968. His recital will
be given at the Mining Mechanical
Institute, Freeland, at 8 P.M.
He will offer a varied repertoire
of classical music. Selections by
Beethoven and Engleman will be a
major part of his performance.
However, the true highlight of
the evening will come with his orig
inal interpretations and composi
tions. “A Song” and ‘‘A Bagatel”
are two of his own selections. Also,
variations of Beethoven’s Symphony
#6 (Pastoral) as transcribed for the
piano by Mr. DeFazio will be per
formed.
‘‘Sonata in “C” Major (op. 3),
composed by Sal, is one of the com
poser’s most acclaimed pieces.
While attending Mining Mechanical,
a special award was given him for
composition and performance of this
sonata.
Student Government Association,
Belles-Lettres and the Non-Club
Club are sponsoring the concert.
John Gal lagher, Belle s-Lettres
President, will serve as Master of
Ceremonies. Admission is free,
and the concert is open to all.
MISS GOODMAN IN MAGUIRE FUCK
Miss Susan Goodman, Instructor
of French and English, has begun
her work on the Paramount Set in
Eckley.
Miss Goodman was recently se
lected from a large group of female
hopefuls for the part of a Miner’s
Wife, Mrs. McAndrew, in the film
“The Molly Maguires.”
Her co-stars include Richard
Harris, Samantha Eggar, Sean Con
nery, and Tony Costello.
READERS TRAVEL
TO UNIVERSITY PARK
Joe Rusnock, Lia Ciotola, Peggy
Astleford, and Nancy Ancharski,
the four winners of the Highacres’
Reading Festival, traveled to Uni
versity Park on April 25 and 26.
They participated in the Twentieth
Pennsylvania Inter-Collegiate In
terpretative Reading Festival with
Mr. Andrew Kafka as their advisor.
Miss Astleford and Miss Anchar
ski read selections from Lawrence
Ferlinghetti’s “Coney Island of the
Mind”, and Mr. Rusnock and Miss
Ciotola read excerpts from George
Bernard Shaw’s “Man and Super
man”.
Readings ranged from Shakes
peare, to Dickinson, from Heming
way to Faulkner. Other participat
ing colleges were Mansfield State,
Juniata College, Behrend Campus,
of P.S.U., Dubois Campus of P.S.U.
and Towson State.
Dr. Wallace Bacon of Northwest
ern University Was the guest speak
er for the festival. He presented
an interesting lecture-recital en
titled “The Act of Interpretation.”
A banquet was held for all par
ticipants, and tickets were provid
ed for the Playhouse Theatre pre
sentation of “Marat/Sade.”
This will be Miss Goodman’s
premiere as a Hollywood starlet*
and the Hazleton Campus wishes
her every success. The Collegian
especially extends its congratula
tions and warm wishes for as advi
sor to this newspaper, Miss Good
man has been of invaluable assis
tance.
