All around the city of Pittsburgh, T-rex stat
ues can be seen in open and often obscure
places. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is one lo
cation with a statue, which is suitably named
Creation Rex. Creation Rex, according to its
blog, recently lost a bet and was forced to
dress up as Lady Gaga. This display was in
conjunction with Lady Gaga's arrival and per
formance in town this past week.

Word Of Mouth
Alec Italian°, sports editor
Erie is known across the state
for one very simple reason, the
snow. Stuck in the middle of
the snow belt that ravishes
cities and towns across the
great lakes from Detroit all the
way up to Canada, the cold
weather never seems to let up.
However, cold weather is wel
comed by a few very select peo
ple out there known as hockey
fans.
When lakes and ponds start
to freeze over many reach for
scarves and mittens, but hockey
players reach for their skates
and stick as they relish in the
cold and ice. With two major
hockey towns so close to Erie,
Pittsburgh and Buffalo, the
Behrend campus is full of these
wild and crazy folk who look
forward to the three winter
months every year.
What many students do not
know however is that Erie plays
host to its very own hockey
team in the Ontario Hockey
League (OHL), the Erie Otters.
The Otters have been playing
games in the 5,500 seat Tullio
Arena located in downtown
Erie since 1996, when the team
officially joined the OHL.
The team is originally from
Niagra Falls, Ontario and joins
only two other American based
teams in the league. The team
already has a rich history, is a
Culture
usual contender in the OHL
playoffs and became only the
second American based team in
the league to win the champi
onship back in 2002.
The team has already gradu
ated 17 players to the NHL in
cluding Michael Rupp who was
part of the 2009 Pittsburgh Pen
guin Stanly Cup Championship
team. Rupp, hailing from
Cleveland, OH, spent a lot of his
time in Erie and is still some
times spotted in the ice arena
down on McClelland Avenue,
especially in the summers.
The games are pretty exciting
in the rough and tumble OHL
league where the goons are the
stars on the team and the
speedsters skate for their lives
on the ice. It is almost guaran
teed to see at least one fight a
night in the Tullio arena. Tick
ets are pretty cheap as well and
there are some major college
discounts, including a pretty
popular five dollar Friday deal
in which most of the 5,500 seats
in the arena fill up.
Next time there is nothing
else to do on a cold wintery
night, find a few friends and
head on down to watch the Erie
Otters have at it. It is an event
that will almost certainly have
you coming back for more and
keep the hockey spirit alive in
side.
