Back-to-back AMCC Champions Men's Tennis season preview
The returning back-to-back AMCC champion
men's tennis team will begin their season at
Baldwin-Wallace, and they plan to end the sea
son with another conference title. They will start
the season with a lot of potential, having nine re
turning players.
"We have great team depth right now, and I am
very excited to get started," said head coach Jeff
Barger, according to psblions.com.
Barger has been coaching the Lions for the last
11 years and will be entering his 12th year as
head coach. He has accumulated four AMCC
champion teams from 1998, 2004, 2008 and
2009.
Barger is not the only leader of this team, how
ever. The senior leaders of the 2010 squad are
Kelly Manning,
Shane Mosier and
Brad Nagel.
Mosier and Nagel
are this year's team
captains
Mosier was
named Rookie of the
Year in 2007, and
Nagel was named
the team's Most Im
proved Player dur
ing his freshman
year.
All the seniors
have played well
throughout their ca-
reers and have high expectations for their final
year playing with the Lions.
Junior Jake Fling said "we have a lot of players
with more experience this year. The seniors have
played well and helped us to learn to step up

ing line-up
Breaking the school record and leading his
team with the most singles and doubles wins is
junior Blackstone. He will be returning for his
third season with the Behrend Lions after be
coming the 2009 AMCC champion in singles and
doubles.
Blackstone has been named the team's Most
Valuable Player the past two years and was also
named the AMCC Player of the Year in 2008 and
2009.
Though they have little experience, the sopho
more class looks promising. Peter Bissert, Jon
Hamm, Matthew Kiser, and Travis Parke have
each showed much potential as freshman. They
are capable of making and becoming a positive
addition to the line up.
This year's freshmen include Chris Galvin and
Antou Jura. If Galvin meets his expectations, he
.
may find himself the;:lifie-up early in'hiS ca
reer. Barger said, "we have a couple of fresh
men that could compete for court time right
away."
The 2010 Lions are a well-rounded hard work
ing team. "Everyone works hard during practice.
We prepare on our own too," Fling said.
The diligence of the team has been clearly dis
played in the past two seasons.
"We do what we can to improve. We are dedi
cated during the summer, fall and winter, as well
as during the spring season."
Each player pushes himself to improve and is
pushed by all the other players.
"This is a very skilled group, and at one point
or another they all could push for playing time,"
Barger said..
With all the talent and experience this team
possesses, a conference title is a possibility.
Winning the AMCC championship for the third
straight year will be difficult to attain.
