MEADVULE
A city man will serve a
lengthy prison sentence after
pleading guilty to the rape of a
child.
Crawford County Judge John
Spataro sentenced 22-year-old
Nathaniel D. Coulson this
morning to serve a 10-to-20-
year state prison sentence for
pleading guilty to the first-de
gree felony charge.
Coulson is also required to
register his whereabouts with
the Pennsylvania State Police
after he was deemed a sexually
violent predator under the
state's Megan's Law.
Meadville police accused
Coulson of having a sexual re
lationship with a young girl
from June 2006, when the girl
was 11 years old. until this year,
when she was 13.
HARBORCREEK
A garage fire spread to a
Harborcreek Township house
late Tuesday night, forcing a
family to flee.
Crews with the Brookside,
Belle Valley, Harborcreek, Kuhl
Hose, Lawrence Park and Fair
field fire departments had the
blaze under control by about 1
a.m.
A man and his two children
ran out of the home and were
unharmed. Carpin said the
family was taken to a relative's
home. Fire investigators esti
mated the home had $50,00 in
damage.
WARREN
A man delivering newspapers
in Tidioute was injured this
morning after losing control of
his car when a bear ran onto
the roadway.
Michael J. Morris, 24, was
listed in stable condition at
Hamot Medical Center.
Police said the Warren man
was driving a Ford Explorer
west on Route 337 when a bear
came out of the woods nearby
onto the road, just west of
Shaney Road. About 2:40 a.m.,
Morris swerved to miss the
bear, losing control of the SUV.
An Erie man was stabbed
several times Tuesday after
noon during a fight at the cor
ner of East 1 Oth Street and East
Avenue.
Dominick Diaz, 19, was
walking when he approached a
group standing at the corner,
Erie police said. A fight broke
out at about 3:10 p.m., and Diaz
was stabbed four times in the
back and buttocks.
He was taken to Hamot Med
ical Center, where he was ad
mitted. His family has asked
that no other information be
made available.

sent to Indonesia
JAKARTA - Deliveries of aid
are being sent to western In
donesia after a powerful earth
quake which left at least 1,100
people dead.
The quake, with a magnitude
of 7.6, triggered a landslide in
Sumatra that blocked roads
and cut power lines.
Hundreds of buildings col
lapsed in Padang, the capital of
West Sumatra province.
Priyadi Kardono, a
spokesman for Indonesia's Na
tional Disaster Agency, said
some 100 to 200 people had
died in Padang and more than
500 houses and buildings had
collapsed.

4. Tufts University:
No sex in room
while roommmate
is present
BOSTON, Massachusetts -
A new policy at Tufts Univer
sity prohibits students in dorms
from having sex while their
roommate is in the room, ac
cording to the university's 2009-
2010 student handbook.
The Massachusetts univer
sity’s formal rule also bars so
called "sexiling" - exiling a
roommate from the room so the
other roommate can engage in
sexual activity.

6. Justices to re-
view Patriot Act
provision
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The
Supreme Court has agreed to
review a civil liberties dispute
over the government's power to
criminalize "support" of a ter
rorist organization.
The justices on Wednesday
accepted review of a key provi
sion of the 2001 Patriot Act, and
whether it threatens free
speech rights of those who
would assist non-violent activi
ties of designated groups.
The government noted that
"since its inception, the organi
zation has waged a violent in
surgency that has claimed over
22,000 lives"
