Amy Oldach (Erie/Villa Maria) has been named the ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR ath lete of the week for the week of Dec. 1, 2008. Oldach led the Behrend Lion offenses dishing out three assists in a 77-82 loss to the Fredonia State Blue Devils. She also tallied 18 points against the Blue Devils to lead the team. Oldach began the season earning a place on the Behrend Tip-Off All Tournament team. Oldach leads the team with 3.7 assists per game and third on the team with eight steals and 13.7 points per game. The Blue and White will open AMCC play on Wednesday, December 3 starting at 6:00 p.m. on the Junker Center hardwood. The matchup with the Mt. Aloysius Mounties will be televised on Image Sports in the Erie area. Behrend enters the game with a 1-2 record while the Mounties are 0-3 on the year. The Behrend Lions will con tinue league play on Saturday, December 6 at Frostburg State. Not only does that bring cold, snowy weather to the campus of Penn State Behrend, it also brings another season of Behrend Lions' basketball. On Wednesday night. the Blue and White hosted the Mt. Alyosius Mounties in Behrend's Junker Center in their first AMCC game,of this early season. Lions' coach Dave Niland set a game plan so that his team could emerge successful against the Mountaies. The Blue and White made some shots of their own and slowly started to take control of the game. The score was close at halftime. with the Lions win ning 39-30. 'The Mounties came out in the second half looking to take con trol of the game themselves. They unleashed a half court trap on the Lions that seemed to he turning the tide. Although the Blue and White had built a lead, it was slowly slipping away. The Lions reacted to the trap and were able to heat it. "We did not handle it well at first, but once we saw it a few times. we spaced it out and the guys did a good job of executing. - Niland The Lions played well on defense as well as offense. The team created I 8 turnovers throughout the span of the game and Niland was pleased with that. "We were very active." Niland said. "Tom Newman and Drew Seker were very aggreyi e Once the Lions got the game hack tinder control, they were able to roll on to victory. The final score was 79-64. Top performers for the Blue and White included Adam Potter. Toni Newman. Drew Seker and Adam Kaiser Potter was the Lions' leading scorer, producing 21 points in the contest. Newman and Kaiser also put up double figures in the win. Newman had 16 points and five assists, while Kaiser netted 14 points.
