The Behrend Beacon I
Lion statue
dedicated
By Jennifer Haight
editor in chief
On the afternoon of September 14, 2006,
Penn State Behrend dedicated its own
Nittany Lion statue. The dedication took
place at the Lion’s permanent location at the
crossing of paths near REDC, Junker Center
and the Smith Chapel. Those who spoke
were Dr. Ken Miller, Director of Student
Affairs; Dr. Jack Burke, Chancellor; Mike
Woods, Council of Fellows Member and
Meredith Straub, Student Government
President.
There were several contributors who made
the Lion Shrine possible. The graduating
classes of 2003 and 2004 raised money for
the statue and there were several other major
donors to the Lion statue, including Woods
and Ted Junker, University Trustee.
There were many students, faculty and
staff in attendance, eager to see the official
unveiling of the Lion Plaza.
