The R&D 100 Awards are widely considered the "Oscars of Invention." The computer program models heating, cooling, lighting, ventilating and other energy flows in commercial and residential buildings for use by engi neers, architects and researchers. Its development was a collaborative effort be tween Penn State and research teams at eight other centers. William Bahnfleth, Penn State associate professor of architectural engineering, directed work on modules for simulating heat transfer in basements and slab-on-grade founda tions. Online contract system makes on-campus housing process convenient for studetns and staff Penn State students can now go online to request on-campus housing con tracts for the 2004-2005 school year through the Standard Residence Hall Room Online Contract System Process. The contract request phase will run through Jan. 20, and contract offers will be posted beginning Jan. 22. A Penn State wrestling first: All home dual meets to be televised in 2003-04 For the first time in the history of the program, the Penn State wrestling team will have its entire home dual meet schedule televised. The Nittany Lions will begin their 96th season on the dual meet mats Saturday, when they take on tradi tional rival Navy at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall. Penn State has made arrangements with local station C-Net (Channel 7 in State College) to carry five home matches on a tape-delay basis. Penn State's WPSX-TV (Channel 3) will carry the sixth home match live. The matches also will be streamed to satellite, allowing FOX-Sports/ Pittsburgh (channel 34) and College Sports Television (CSTV) to televise some matches and fans from outside the local area to view matches on satellite TV. Countdown to THON: Canning weekends As THON weekend rapidly approaches, solicitation and donation efforts are in full swing by student organizations on campus. One of the most popular forms of garnering donations is canister solicitation, or known more affectionately to students as "canning." Canning weekends are opportunities for student organiza tions to travel across the Commonwealth and other states to raise awareness about THON and solicit donations for The Four Diamonds Fund.
