Page 2 The Behrend Beacon WEEKEND WEATHER SATUhDAY• SUNDAY MONDAY Weather High: 66° Low: 43° BEHREND BRIEFS PENN STATE PIONEERS ONLINE PLACEMENT TESTS Penn State's Office of Undergraduate Education pioneered new territory this summer as nearly 15,000 students completed their placement testing for chem istry, English and math online without ever setting foot on campus. "Penn State's online approach to placement is more extensive than any other large university's," said Janis Jacobs, vice provost for Undergraduate Education and International Programs. The entire Penn State 2003 incoming class, including international students, out-of-state students and students entering each of the campus col lege locations, logged on from home computers or other off-site locations. Stu dents without access to a home computer were offered computer lab options at the Penn State campus closest to their home. Green and gold are back in style! With the addition of 10 new members from last year's recruitment, Alpha Sigma Tau is back and ready to invite the women of Penn State Behrend to join the growing organization. Rush (recruitment) is an important part of all Greek organizations. These events (rush parties) are designed to let women meet sisters and learn about Alpha Sigma Tau. During this time period, you learn about Greek mainstay philanthropy and other aspects of Greek life. The sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau help the community through various projects including Adopt-a-Highway. Events will be held on the following dates: Sept. 24 and Oct. 8 both at 9 p.m. in Bruno's. Student Government Association to hold elections Penn State Behrend SGA will hold inter-semester elections for three Fresh man Senator positions, one regular Senator position, and a University Faculty Senate Representative. Petitions can be picked up at the RUB desk and must be completed and returned by Oct 7 The elections will take place on October 8 and 9. In order to run all candidates need to obtain 50 signatures on a petition included within the packet. The subject was cited for underage drinking. 9/15/03 06:45 Complainant reported the bottom pane of glass in the nw door of the stair tower had been broken sometime between Friday morning at 05:30 and Saturday at the same time. 9/16/03 02:55 Complainant called East County to see if they could track down her son who called her from a pay phone in Erie.
