With a win already under their belts against Greensburg, the Lady Li Team co Behrend will face Altoona in the first round of AMCC tournament at Altoona withthe Lions losing, 1-0. by Dan Vidal staff writer With, one game remaining in the Lion's regular season, the team is on a roll. This season has really been a story of two tales for the men's soccer team. Through their first nine games they were just 1-6-2, they have fought back to retain a record of 7-8-4 overall. Not only have they gained respectibility, they have also become one of the top teams in the AMCC. The Lions could have crumbled a long time ago, but they didn't, and are now ready to compete for the conference champiuonship. Following a 1-0 conference loss to Penn State Altoona, Behrend picked up two straight road victories. They defeated Thiel 2-1 and then added their fourth conference victory of the season at Frostburg with a 2-0 shutout. This now places the Lions in a nice position for the playoffs. They end the season with a 4-2 record in the AMCC and have an opportunity to pick up their third straight victory of the season in positioning "We have been playing great the past couple of weeks," said head coach Kellie Diehl. "We were focused and on point throughout the matches Friday night making the win against Greensburg a smooth and not too difficult one." Adams had an outstanding game, tallying a whopping 13 kills to really put it to the Greensburg team. However, the team has to feel good about how it finished the season and its chances in the playoffs. They are on a tremendous streak as they finish the season with a record of 6-2-2 in their last 10 game. The squad was totally manhandled early in the season. Part of this turnaround was due to the great play of junior goalkeeper Jake Hordych. Hordych has five shutouts this season. When asked about the early season slump, Hordych attributed it to the level of competition. "For the first part of our season where it seemed as though we were struggling a bit, people can look at our schedule and see why," said Hordych. "Just about all the teams we play on our schedule are regionally or nationally ranked, so to come back like we did was something great." The Lions had a strong defense against Pitt-Greensburg, not allowing many points to hit the Junker Center floor. ons entered the Junker Center court with poise and men tal focus. Brilliant game work and team passing was the name of the game as the Behrend Lions flowed through the matches with little resistance and key inst Altoona at AMCC tournament Hordych also said that the team standing 11 kills, and a solo block at the middle hitter position. With the win, the Behrend Lions not only improved their overall record to 15- 16, but also secured a very respectable spot in the upcoming AMCC tournament with a second-place seeding. In first round play, tonight will set the match as the Lady Lions are scheduled to meet Pitt Bradford in what should be a pretty intense match. "The No.l seeded team is really our biggest concern" said coach Diehl. She also said that playing against No. 1 ranked Frostburg before the tournament was the closest match we have had all season, sending the game into overtime and losing only loosing in a 17-15 tightly played match. With tournament play in their minds, and great season closing action, the Behrend Lions are looking to win the AMCC tournament. Team work and big The two teams clashed last week learned to play with each other as the season progressed. Hordych is this week's Housing and Food Service Athlete of the Week. The Lions will play their final regular season game at Westminister on Saturday. They will have a chance to pick up their season-high third straight victory. The team is on a high now and really believes that they have a chance to go far in the playoffs. To enter the AMCC tournament with a conference record of 4-2 and playing gives the team much more confidence. The Lions have been using these last couple of games to prepare for the playoffs and work on things they can improve. "We are in sync together right now because we've been through a lot this season and we know what we must do and are really prepared for the conference tournament," said Hordych It is now up to the Lions to show that the first part of the season was a fluke and that they are ready to contend as the playoffs begin Wednesday. plays are the winning combination fo this Behrend team.
