Mayo is the author of four fic tion books, including In Lithuanian Wood, B. Horror and Other Stories, and Centaur of the North, which won the 1997 Aztlan Award. His short stories have appeared in over 70 maga zines and anthologies; Mayo is the recipient of a National En dowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowship for 2000- 20001. Mayo currently teaches in the creative writing program at Bowl ing Green State University The 2000-2001 Creative Writers Speaker Series is sponsored by the Clarence and Eugenie Baumann Smith Fund. The event’s goal is to promote aware ness of and dialogue about issues related to racism, prejudice, and discrimination. Like last year, Lawrence and Niagara Hall Councils will have a booth in front of Bruno’s with a petition against racism for people to sign 5:20 p.m Student Government Association Meeting, Reed 113 8:00 p.m Babes In Anns , ARC BEHREND BECKONS WITH BABES INARMS When the Rodgers and Hart musical Babes in Arms opened on Broadway in 1937, it was about a group of kids who plan to put on a show in a barn. When it opens at Penn State Behrend on March 21, 2001, it will be about a group of kids who plan to put on a show' in a gym—Penn State Behrend’s new ARC. The Behrend production is scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday, March 21-24, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 25, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets Babes in Anns frustrations, and n college-age wou actresses at a sum' in New England, their tyrann producer works th< so hard that the never have a chance showcase their talents, the group - decides to produce their own show on their own time. While the plot of Babes in Arms is simple, the music is not. The show contains some of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart’s most memorable and time-tested songs: Where or When, / Wish I Were in Love Again, My Funny Valentine, Johnny One Note, and The Lady is a Tramp. Dr. Gary Viebranz, yvho heads the college’s instrumental music programs, will oversee the orchestra for the show, and Dr. Daniel Barnard, head of choral music programs, will oversee the vocalists. Behrend graduate Geoff Bach will choreograph the dance numbers.
