NEWS School of Science looking for new professors by Ryan Flaherty staff writer In order to keep up with the ever growing student population, Behrend is in the process of interviewing for new teaching positions in the School of Science. The applicants are contending for assistant professor positions in computer science, mathematics, physics, and biology. Each department has narrowed down the selection of possible professors to approximately three in each department. All of the candidates presented a seminar that was available to both the faculty and student population, and which gave a description of what their respective studies are focused on. All new faculty members will begin in the upcoming fall semester. The new positions will supplement the current teaching population as well as fill in for those professors that have retired "They [the new professors] make the college, and we are very excited to have them join us," commented Dr. Roger Knacke, director of School of Science. "We are strengthening our faculty, broadening our abilities, as well as strengthening our courses." Which means that besides inheriting classes already known to Behrend, some of these professors will be introducing new courses as well. There are varied new classes available in the math department, Fasenmyer to receive Distinguished Alumni Award by Chantel Gray staff writer Richard J. Fasenmyer, an alumnus of Penn State Behrend, has been selected to receive the Penn State Distinguished Alumni Award for the year 2000. Nominated for the distinction, 69- year-old Fasenmyer was the first to donate $1 million to Penn State Behrend. In honor of this donation, Penn State Behrend named its Plastics Processing Lab after him. "Dick Fasenmyer's business achievements and generosity to Penn State Behrend has been immense . . . He is an astute business leader with a worldwide reputation, and a most deserving recipient." said Provost and ONE TCOPINIMG G**DEN SPECIAL." And finally the new assistant professor in computer science will be teaching some of the upper 400-level courses. As far as hiring new teachers, Behrend is far from done. Interviews are held every year to accommodate the steadily increasing student population at Behrend. Dean Dr. John Lilley. After receiving his associate's degree, Fasenmyer earned a bachelor's degree in accounting at University Park.
